HT 5:11 – HT 5:19 Roaring Lambs
It feels odd to go so long between posts, but what do you want me to do?
Yeah, I read today.
Okay, if that’s what you want……
04.27.09 (HT 5:11) – I read today.
04.28.09 (HT 5:12) – I read today.
04.29.09 (HT 5:13) – I read today.
04.30.09 (HT 5:14) – Didn’t read today
05.01.09 (HT 5:15) – I read today.
05.02.09 (HT 5:16) – I read today.
05.03.09 (HT 5:17) – I read today.
05.04.09 (HT 5:18) – I read today.
05.05.09 (HT 5:19) – I read today.
See how boring that was. The only day I missed was because I didn’t plan my schedule well and arrived home very late from a college presentation in Orlando for my daughters.
The great news is…..I FINISHED MY SECOND BOOK. I bought the book “Roaring Lambs” by Robert Briner over a decade ago simply out of curiosity. At the time I was aware that this book was a challenge to the Christian community to be more active in communicating God and His love to others (not a book about scary sheep). Now, after completing Briner’s book, I fully understand how he wants us to do this. For example:
*We must be salt (Matthew 5:13), actively affecting our circle of influence in a non-preachy way. Live it out!
*We must not limit our ideas of “full-time ministry” to those typical pastoral roles, but encourage a ministry mentality in all areas especially in media, literary, artistic and educational capacities.
*Instead of using all of our energy protesting things that we don’t agree with, we should be actively involved with finding solutions that are scripturally based and implementing those ideas.
These and many other ideas were wholeheartedly encouraged by Briner, and with apologies, even to the point of nearing a spiritual nagging point. I really felt early on in the book I grasped the idea and even agreed with the majority of suggestions. I just felt at times that the author was continually explaining himself without the need to really do so. I got it. Great idea. Let’s do it. After “getting it” over some 200 pages, I doubt I would reread this one.
I’m still struggling at times with fatigue, comprehension and distractions. Waiting until bed time to read is not always the best time, but sometimes it is the only time I’ve left for myself.
But back to the positive. I’ve finished two books in 19 days. I’m really proud of this accomplishment. Starting book three today!
More tomorrow.
